How to Use Snapchat: A Beginner's Guide

Snapchat is a popular social media site that is used to share photos and videos with your friends. One of the best features of Snapchat is the ephemeral nature of content. Snapchats are typically deleted after 24 hours, meaning they can't be saved or copied by other people. This means you always have something new to look at and talk about with others in your circle. However, this also makes it difficult to remember what you've seen when you snap long conversations between friends or snaps that were important to you. To help you out, here's how to use Snapchat like a pro!

How to use Snapchat

To use Snapchat, download the app from your phone's app store and sign in with your phone number or email. You'll be prompted to create a username for yourself, but this is optional. Once you've signed up and signed in, you'll be given the option to take a photo or video which will then upload to your story.

Next, swipe left to view stories from other people by using the "Discover" tab at the bottom of the screen. Stories expire after 24 hours so they won't last long!

You can also send snaps to friends by tapping on their username at the top of the screen and selecting "Send a Snap." When you send a friend a photo or video, it will appear on their story feed where they can replay it once before it expires.

To chat with friends while they are looking at your story feed, tap on the chat icon (it looks like an envelope) next to their name. You can also send text messages with friends that aren't online by selecting "New chat" on their profile page and sending them a message.

How to take a good snap

While Snapchat is typically used to send funny pictures or videos, it can also be used as a way of documenting your life. When you want to take a good snap, there are a few things you'll want to do:

- Make sure the lighting is decent and that your face is front facing.

- Choose what type of snap you want. There's a whole range of snaps for everything from stories (long form content) to chats (short form content).

- Know what font you're going to use. You can choose between Papyrus, Impact, and many more!

- Include some text!

Now that you know how to take a great snap, here are some other tips:

- Use the filters! They help your photos and videos look fun or silly while also transforming your video quality and adding effects.

- Change the caption of your story at any time. This will allow new people who follow you in real time to see the latest updates instead of old ones.

Sliding and tapping your fingers

The first step is opening the app and sliding your fingers to see a list of your friends.

Next, you'll want to swipe left and right to find the person you want to talk to. Once you've found that person, tap their name and type out what you want to say. You can include pictures or videos too!

If you want to add a picture or video, just tap the camera button on the top left of your screen and take a photo or video. To send it over Snapchat, just tap the arrow button next to the camera button.

Discovering new friends with stories

One of the easiest ways to find new friends on Snapchat is to use the Snap Map. The Snap Map shows you all your friends, including their location if they've chosen to share it with you. You can also type in any user you want to follow, and see that person's location, too. For those who don't want to be tracked, there is an option for Ghost Mode. This blurs the last known location of a user so that no one knows where they are.

If you're like me and don't care about being followed around by people I don't know, I would recommend turning on Ghost Mode so that only close friends can see where you are at any given time

Creating a story

One of the best features of Snapchat is that you can create a story. This lets you post multiple snaps in one place so people can view it from start to finish without having to open every snap individually. Stories are also saved for an extended period of time, meaning anyone who follows you will be able to see your story for as long as 1 day.

Sending out a link to your story

Snapchat has one main feature: videos. You can take pictures and videos of anything like making a funny face, buying something from the grocery store, or attending an event--anything you want! With all of these photos and videos, it's easy to forget what you've been doing. Sending out a link to your story is the perfect way to not forget your cool moments! When you send out a link to your Snapchat story, other people will be able to see that story without having to add you as a friend on Snapchat. They can watch these stories for 24 hours before they're deleted (depending on what kind of account they are using).

Editing and drawing on photos or videos with filters and doodles

This is arguably the most basic way to use Snapchat. You can take a photo or video with your phone and edit it with filters, doodles, text, or other features. Snapchat comes with many built-in filters that allow you to change the color and mood of your photos and videos. You can also draw on photos and videos using the drawing tool. This is a great way to add fun drawings while leaving some space for writing text.

There are also third-party filters you can download which have a more diverse range of options than what's available in the official app (although these will require you to install an outside app).
